Watch: My Dinner with Andre
A recent afternoon with Andre Gregory reminded me that it has been a while since I watched My Dinner with Andre. The Criterion re-release is on my list and should be on yours, too.
I’m fortunate to be able to experience Andre Gregory‘s storytelling first-hand. Family, theater, art, love, aging, history, music and the intersections of all of the above flow effortlessly from Andre, punctuated with frequent laughs and the master raconteur’s full arsenal of expression. On May 1, Andre and his wife Cindy Kleine are hosting a rare evening of storytelling as a benefit for the completion of Before and After Dinner, Cindy’s documentary about Andre. Please email me if you’re interested in attending – in addition to wit and stories, the evening includes supper and cocktails.
While watching a rough cut of the documentary, it occurred to me that it had been a long time since I’ve watched My Dinner with Andre, Louis Malle‘s film of an evening-long conversation between Andre and his friend and collaborator Wally Shawn. It was an unlikely international hit and raised IQs around the globe. I’m revisiting the Criterion re-release; you should, too.
